"The Legend Of Ashitaka - The Curse" - Prince Ash - *Debut Album*
Prince Ash (A.K.A Prince Ashitaka / Yung Prince) is one of the pioneers of the Irish Emo-Trap genre. Hailing from Galway, Ireland his musical style is heavily influenced by legendary artists such as XXXTentacion, $uicideboy$, BONES, Ghostemane, Lil Tracy, and Lil Peep. Prince Ash is a multi-talented artist whose main talent is expressed through writing. He is a talented poet, screenwriter, and author, however, he feels he is strongest expressing himself through rap music as he has been writing and rapping all of his life. Prince Ash has suffered from ongoing mental health and addiction issues for the majority of his life thus he is self-proclaimed - 'Prince Ash from the County Hell'. He is credited as being the first Emo rapper from Galway. Prince Ash is a very versatile rapper who both sings and raps on his tracks, he also dips into a wide range of sub-genres within Rap such as Trap-metal, Emo-Trap, Cloud Rap, Alternative Hip-Hop, and Lo-Fi. He always raps in his own accent and this adds a level of Genuity to his hard-hitting, pain-entrenched lyrics. Prince Ash takes his name after Prince Ashitaka from the Studio Ghibli film 'Princess Mononoke' as he feels he can identify a lot with that character. He has also been featured on acclaimed Youtube channels such as 'Toxic' and 'MNuss' and is one of the only Irish artists to have done so.
Prince Ash's debut album 'The Legend Of Ashitaka - The Curse' dropped on all streaming platforms on the 24th of April 2021. The album is a 16 track journey into the artist's mental state. The album explores the genre of "Emo Rap" with hard-hitting lyrics and somber melodic instrumentals. In almost every track, you can hear Ash's influence. However, Ash's music is distinct from the musicians who have inspired him. The way he uses epic melodies to bring more nuance to the bleak lyricism is a breath of fresh air.
