Wyvern Lingo Full interview with The Labtv Ireland (Video)
Wyvern Lingo are a three-piece from County Wicklow, Ireland. Known for their soulful, passionate and haunting live show, Wyvern Lingo are one of the few bands that can get you dancing with a full band of keys, guitar, synth bass and drums – or make you melt when they strip the set back to acapella. Their brand new EP is a veritable cocktail of R’n’B hooks, bluegrass licks, gospel harmonies and inciteful-beyond-their-years lyrics.
Friends and bandmates since school days, Wyvern Lingo share a gift for close harmony, keen songcraft and effervescent live performance. Drawing on a diverse range of influences from pop, rock and R’n’B, their voices interweave to create a fresh, forward-looking sound.
The Labtv Ireland was lucky to catch the group while they were in Cyprus Avenue, Cork. When Bubba asked the trio on who does what within the group, they said...
.."We all write and sing,....“so the way it works out is that the writer of the song takes lead vocal and has the final say on the overall arrangement. However, we all share and are open to each other’s opinions. It’s very much a collaboration with each song."
Their music is available from youtube to online music digital stores. Lets all come together and support our local music.
A self-released EP caught the ear of Irish label Rubyworks, and the band toured with Hozier in the UK and at home; Karen and Caoimhe both putting in a double shift by singing backing vocals for their Wicklow friend. Karen also duets with Hozier on the haunting ‘In A Week’ on his multi-platinum debut album.
Wyvern Lingo’s debut release for Rubyworks is a four-track EP called ‘Letter To Willow’. Three of the tracks were recorded in Cologne, Germany with Sierra-Leonean / German artist-producer Patrice Bart-Williams, best known in Europe for his work with Selah Sue, Cody ChestnuTT and Keziah Jones. These tracks were mixed in Paris by Philippe Weiss (Dragonette, George Clinton, K’naan). Additional recording for the title track took place in Dublin with Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey) at the controls.
