Gemma Sugrue talks about her excitement for this Sunday in the 3 Arena Dublin with Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and why she started Voiceworks Studio in 2011.
Gemma is the director and co-founder of vocal tuition centre, Voiceworks Studio and is a vocal coach, conductor and professional vocalist based in Cork city. She graduated from CIT Cork School of Music with 1st class honours MA and Bmus degree, specializing in vocal performance. Gemma is an avid performer and has played leading roles in various stage productions and is also a popular backing vocalist and session singer having performed/recorded with artists including Camille O' Sullivan, Brian Deady, John Spillane, Jack O' Rourke, The Niall McCabe Band, Jericho, Laoise Leahy, Aine Whelan and has supported acts including Chic, Billy Ocean, Jerry Fish and Lee Fields. She also fronts the live soul act, Stone Fox and is a featured guest jazz vocalist with The Hot House Big Band, The Sam Barker Trio and is hired as a vocalist for function bands including Spring Break, Soul Driven, The Pearls, The Incredibles and The Magnetics.. Gemma provides live vocals with DJ, Stevie G and has guested at fashion events including Miss Universe finals, Dress for Success and La Chat Noir. Gemma also works for company, "Singers for Hire" and is in high demand as a freelance vocalist for weddings and events. She has toured Australia, The Caribbean, Europe and the UK as the c soloist with theatre group, Ceol Chiarraí. Her recording experience includes studio sessions for Audio Sunshine and Arena on RTE Radio 1, live sessions on Newstalk and Cork's 96fm, Redfm, work with composer C.S.L. Parker and has provided session vocals for Red Door Productions, French Quarter Studios, Navian Studios, Brian Deady independent and many other promotional recordings.
